The Lie Detector
The polygraph machine was invented in 1921 in Berkeley, California. August Vollmer was a well-known Police chief from the area, and he was in charge of police reform in the United States. He wanted to find a way to scientifically make cops more law-abiding themselves. To make this so, he invented the polygraph machine to get information out of people without harming them. This replaced what was for what was known as the third degree, which was a way of getting information from people by beating it out of them.

Sunglasses
The first sunglasses were invented sometime in 12th century China. They were nothing more than a slab of smoked quartz that was used to block out the light from the sun. In 1929, Sam Foster had put sunglasses into mass production in America, and was making a rather large profit. He sold the first pair of his sunglasses on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, NJ in 1929. By 1930, sunglasses could be found all over.
